Picture a seven-year-old boy at the Boston Hunting & Fishing Expo, clutching a photo of Ted Williams he’d carefully cut from a book. That boy was me, and when I saw my hero slip backstage after a fly-fishing demo, I didn’t hesitate. I ducked through a curtain, leaving my dad in a frenzy, and spent ten unforgettable minutes talking to the baseball legend. Ted signed my photo, and from that moment, I was hooked on autographs.
Fast forward 50 years, and that passion never faded. After 35 years as a CPA firm partner, I retired—only to discover retirement wasn’t for me. I craved purpose, but the accounting world no longer called. Instead, I turned to my lifelong love of collecting autographs, a hobby that’s taken me from meeting U.S. Presidents and astronauts to sports heroes and Hollywood icons. Each signature tells a story, and I’ve been privileged to live many of them.
My wife, inspired by that first Ted Williams encounter, named our business Splendid Splinter Autographs. Together, we’re dedicated to sharing our collection with you—authentic pieces of history that carry the thrill of the moment they were signed.
